A gathering in order to give voice to the patient, starting from real testimonials of people who live and live daily with Multiple Sclerosis (ill, Caregivers, family and informal support network) e que a encaram de uma forma positiva.

The meeting has the support of health professionals and is part of the project "Stories Multiple", an initiative that has the support of Novartis, through a partnership between the three patient groups working in this field: Multiple Sclerosis Portuguese Society (HOPE), National Association of Multiple Sclerosis (WE) and all with Multiple Sclerosis (TEM).

"There are many issues that affect the life of a patient with multiple sclerosis and their caregivers. This get-together we decided to address the issues that seem more relevant and deserve to be discussed. The uncertain path to diagnosis, the role of support provided after this time and the impact of caregiver in the patient's life are the themes that will be highlighted at this meeting ", explains Lourdes Silva, representante da ANEM.

Launched in May, under the World Multiple Sclerosis Day, the project involves in addition to the gatherings organized by patient organizations, the collection of real testimonies of multiple sclerosis community, of patients, caregivers and rest support network. The testimonies collected in this project and the realization of gatherings come out conclusions and recommendations that will be released later in the year, no âmbito do Dia Nacional da Pessoa com Esclerose Múltipla.

The project is developed by Novartis, designed and implemented in close collaboration with leading patient organizations – National Association of Multiple Sclerosis (WE), Multiple Sclerosis Portuguese Society (HOPE) All and Association with Multiple Sclerosis (TEM).

Its main objective is to give voice to the patient, starting from real testimonials of people who live and live daily with this disease (ill, Caregivers, their family and informal support network) and that the face of a positive, transmitting in its multiple stories a message of encouragement and, at the same time, alertando para as necessidades e aspetos mais determinantes de quem vive com a doença.

In addition to the collection of evidence and disclosure, the project also includes a series of gatherings to be organized by the Patient Organizations. These gatherings will bring together the multiple sclerosis community around issues that concern them and ranging from conditions of personal and professional life of caregivers, the daily limitations of patients, importance of rehabilitation, cuidados continuados e disfunções familiares.

The project is not intended to show extraordinary stories of people with Multiple Sclerosis, but real people testimonies, despite illness, can lead their lives as normally as possible. Also intends to point out aspects that have been decisive in how the patient and their informal network face multiple sclerosis, namely the importance of being alert to signs and symptoms and not ignore them, quer antes de um possível diagnóstico quer durante o curso da doença.

"Breaking down prejudices and make society aware of the possibility of people with MS can have quality of life and remain active members of society, if diagnosed and treated early it is one of the most important aspects of this project, which will have a nationwide, allowing also get a fashion photography as we are supporting these patients ", adds Lourdes Silva, coordenadora da ANEM.

Multiple sclerosis affects about 5 thousand Portuguese . Worldwide there are over 2,3 million people with this chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system that manifests itself in young adults, between 20 e os 40 years old, and interferes with the patient's ability to control functions such as vision, locomotion, and the balance. Women are twice as likely to develop MS than men . The disease has a significant impact on quality of life of patients and their families . More of 90% of people with MS complain of fatigue, constituindo um dos sintomas com maior impacto na qualidade de vida e produtividade dos doentes .

The testimonies collected in this project and the completion of nine gatherings come out conclusions and recommendations that will be released later in the year, no âmbito do Dia Nacional da Pessoa com Esclerose Múltipla.

Pela avaliação da falta de respostas socias na área da reabilitação em Vila Nova de Gaia o nosso propósito é desenvolver num espaço cedido pela Autarquia um espaço para a reabilitação física e psicossocial para dar resposta à população portadora de Esclerose Múltipla e doentes de Foro Neurológico.

Para a concretização deste projecto serão realizadas obras de beneficiação do espaço, nomeadamente a criação de infra estruturas para uma maior eficiência e eficácia para a implementação e desenvolvimento do CAARPD (Centro de Atendimento, Monitoring and Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities).

Em breve este projecto estará concluído e convidamos Todos a participar desta nossa nova aventura com o apoio Fundação EDP, no âmbito do programa EDP Solidária- Inclusão Social 2017.
